Dr. Ashok kumar did his Undergraduation (MBBS, 2001-2007) and Orthopedic residency (M.S. Ortho, 2008-2011) from the prestigious Madurai medical college. During his postgraduate days he developed interest in Paediatric orthopedics and he did his thesis on “Brachial plexus birth palsy- Erb’s palsy” in the new born. He has presented papers in many state and national level conferences. He has won many accolades including Dr. Joy Patankar gold medal in Pediatric orthopedics from the Indian orthopedic association for his thesis paper and Dr. Xavier gold medal in hand surgery from the Tamilnadu orthopedic association.

After finishing orthopedic residency,he joined Tamilnadu government medical service as Assistant professor of orthopedic surgery. But on seeing that the treatment of many children with deformities is neglected due to the lack of trained specialists in our part of the country, he decided to devote his career to this field. He underwent specialized training in pediatric orthopedics first at B. J.Wadia Hospital for Children,Mumbai. Then he completed his International Clinical fellowship in pediatric orthopedics and deformity correction from Korea University Guro hospital, Seoul(2014). During this period he also presented papers in the South korean deformity correction society (ASAMI) national meeting.
Now he practices as an exclusive pediatric orthopedic surgeon withspecial interest in the management of congenital anamolies (Club foot, DDH…), treating kids with cerebral palsy, deformity correction, limb lengthening, Hippreservation surgery (for Perthes disease, SCFE…) and pediatric musculoskeletal injuries. He has keen interest in academics and has published many original articles in reputed national and international journals including Journal of pediatric orthopedics. He has also written many chapters on pediatric orthopedics and hand surgery in books published by international publishers. He is being invited as a faculty in many state/ national level orthopedic conferences and Continuing medical education (CME) programme for orthopedic surgeons and pediatricians.
